In 2023, we underwent a strategic planning process, which set up four Strategic Pillars for Blue Forest.

Strategic Pillars at Blue Forest are the articulation of our areas of priority for the next five years. These initiatives are setting the stage for where we will be focusing our resources through 2029.

Blue Forest has grown from proving out the model of Forest Resilience Bonds and conservation finance, to replicating, scaling, and leveraging our expertise in the field to develop additional financial models to tackle ecosystem restoration. To bring us from our initial stages as a startup to a resilient organization, strengthening Blue Forest’s abilities, resources, and competencies to achieve its mission and goals is essential.

Recognizing that our ecosystems are at a crisis point, we believe it is critical to identify financial solutions that enable landscape restoration to occur at the pace and scale needed to achieve long-term resilience. Sustainable financing is essential to ensuring that the delivery of on-the-ground holistic ecosystem restoration can be replicated and scaled. We bring together people, finance, and science together to develop financial products that are best positioned to restore and protect ecosystems.

Underpinning all of our work at Blue Forest is our value of being grounded in science. Our deep scientific and conservation expertise and partnerships underlay the structuring of both our financial vehicles, as well as our community collaborations in pursuit of ecological restoration. We strongly believe that essential to restoring ecosystems at a landscape scale is a deep understanding and application of both Western Science as well as Traditional Ecological Knowledge.

Essential to ensuring high impact in our work towards ecological restoration is ensuring that our current staff are excelling, that we are attracting curious, innovative, and impactful new staff, and are actively widening the pipeline of talent at the intersection of the finance and conservation fields. Key to developing staff excellence is creating a culture of empowerment and inclusion, where staff have ownership of their work, feel like they can bring their authentic self to work, set ambitious goals, and embed accountability. In order to develop this culture, our employees need to be confident, respected, capable, supported, rested, compensated, and appreciated.
